Auē! Calling all voyagers, big and small!
This year, we invite you to set sail aboard our wa’a (canoe) "Hui ʻO Hawaiʻi" as we celebrate the ancient practice of voyaging. Our program explores the many ways voyaging is woven into Native Hawaiian culture, history, and identity. Watch as we share our stories through dance and immerse yourself in the cultures of Polynesia as you journey alongside us through a narrated captain’s log.
Voyaging was reawakened as a means of reconnecting with our ancestors who crossed vast oceans guided by the stars, the winds, and the sea. Inspired by the legendary voyaging canoes Hōkūleʻa and her sister Hikianalia, this year’s Lūʻau honors the revival of traditional navigation and wayfinding. Through their journeys, we rediscovered how Native Hawaiians first came to inhabit the islands of Hawaiʻi and how this knowledge continues to guide us today.
As we voyage together, we invite you to reflect on your own journey. Consider the paths that have shaped you and the moments that led you here—to sit with us, to celebrate, and to share in an unforgettable experience.
